e-Bility.com was launched in 1998 as a one-stop accessible destination for disability-related information, resources, services and products by Sandra Vassallo. The Internet was still in its infancy, hosting was expensive and web access more limited than today.

e-Bility's purpose was three-fold:

  1. To make it easier and quicker for people with disability to find relevant information in an accessible format
  2. To offer an affordable low-cost alternative for small groups in the disability and community sector to have a presence on the web as well as space for people with disability, their families and carers to have a voice and share experiences
  3. To support and promote web accessibility

The e-Bility website had a policy of full access from its inception and became a destination for organisations and people with disability to share their experiences and resources.

17 years on and the Internet is now a way of life, information is abundant, most organisations in the sector have an online presence, accessibility is not perfect but much improved… To have been part of the early days of the web was exciting and even more so to see it evolve into such a dynamic space with so many potential benefits for people with disability. "Articles" are now self-published on personal blogs, Google has become an expert at delivering targeted search results that replace the old-style "links directory" and creating a website is more affordable than ever. e-Bility has also evolved in response to these global changes, archiving some of the early resources and enhancing services such as the online classifieds that continue to grow in demand.

Thanks for your continued support.
